storyhealing, thank you  Many people have heard Brené Brown's TED talks and read her books and found her message refreshing and empowering (see sidebar). She has made popular and more widely known the

power of story.

A few years after I learned about Brené,

I ended up in a workshop with Lani Peterson of Boston Massachusetts. Lani teaching photo

In her career as a psychologist and university professor, she has years of experience teaching

the power of personal story.

We all tell ourselves stories at subconscious levels that end up controlling our lives. When Lani describes how our human brains are wired to organize all of our life experiences into a story format the listener has no question that this is true.

We all experience it!

Lani's workshops helps us discover that we change our lives when we learn

we have a choice about what we believe about ourselves.

To do that, we have to be able to bring our subconscious stories into our consciousness.  If that were easy, we'd all do it.  Right?

We can learn how and Lani will teach us!

She will lead us through powerful exercises that help us discover our "leading stories" and find out in what ways we keep ourselves confined in stories that are too thin to encompass the whole of who we are. She explains that

we don't change or abandon our stories,

but we learn to "thicken" our personal stories (beliefs) to include strengths we have previously discounted about ourselves. She gives us tools to reach for when we find ourselves subconsciously fallen into a dark, stuck, thin story that does not serve us.  We are in a thin story when we get stuck in depression or angry habits or addictions of all kinds. Some may think that spending time and money on oneself in a workshop like this is selfish, but nothing could be further from the truth.

There is no better gift that you can give to others than the gift of your authentic self.

That gives permission to those you love to, themselves, thicken their own stories thereby helping them find greater meaning and peace. Applying the principles and practices of a workshop like this will improve your relationships.

That is not selfish!  That is an amazing gift to give to others as well as yourself!
